Each year on November 14, we observe World Diabetes Day, a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes — a condition that affects millions of people and influences every aspect of their health, lifestyle, and wellbeing.
Diabetes is not only a chronic disease but also a global health challenge. With increasing rates worldwide, it calls for collective awareness, prevention, and access to care that supports healthier, more resilient communities.
Diabetes occurs when the body cannot properly regulate blood sugar (glucose), either due to insufficient insulin production (Type 1) or the body’s inability to use insulin effectively (Type 2). Over time, high blood sugar can lead to serious complications affecting the heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, and blood vessels.
Globally, diabetes affects over 530 million adults, and projections suggest that number could rise significantly in the coming decades if preventive measures aren’t strengthened.
In Cyprus, approximately 106,100 adults aged 20–79 are living with diabetes — about 10% of the adult population.
According to recent estimates, 12.7% of Cypriots have been diagnosed with some form of diabetes, underscoring the urgent need for education, regular screening, and preventive lifestyle interventions.

While diabetes can have serious long-term consequences, many cases of Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed through healthy choices and early detection. Simple steps make a powerful difference:
For those already diagnosed, consistent management and medical guidance can help control blood sugar levels, reduce complications, and maintain quality of life.
At HealthcarePro SOLUTIONS, we believe that education and access to care are the foundation of better health outcomes.
Through awareness campaigns, patient education, and healthcare training, we aim to support both individuals living with diabetes and the professionals caring for them.
By empowering people with knowledge, tools, and community support, we can help ensure that diabetes is managed effectively — and that no one faces it alone.
World Diabetes Day is more than a date on the calendar — it’s a global call to action.
A call to governments, healthcare providers, communities, and individuals to come together in the fight against diabetes through awareness, prevention, and equitable access to treatment.
Let’s take this opportunity to reflect, learn, and act.
Together, we can reduce the burden of diabetes, promote healthier lifestyles, and improve lives — in Cyprus and around the world.
